Time

As 2014 comes to a close and 2015 rolls into our lives I realized that I have now made a clear 2 year pass of the quarter century mark. Since when does 27 years pass so fast? I find myself looking into the mirror and still seeing me, not 27 year old Max, but just me. Time is a funny thing, a tricky thing at that. It's not easy to explain nor is it easy to grasp. We can keep track of time, but we could never possibly count all of time nor determine the beginning or end of time. It's so plainly obvious in it's existence, yet we never really feel it's there or progressing. It never changes in speed or count. 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours every day, 7 days every week and 12 months every year. It just never changes. "Time flies" and "time is at a stand still" are expressions of our subjective relative view to time, but as any physics major knows, the variable of time is always the same and never changes. It's a consistent bar of standard that exists as a parameter to our lives. We are all victims to time. We can't get rid of it and we can't stop it, but we live in it. It's just always there and it will always be there. To remind us, perhaps of our limitations and our temporal existence in this world. We can possess all things in the universe, but you will never control time.

So what then are we to do with this time that we have? If it is the one thing that is given to us and it is short in relevance to its whole, then why do we spend it mindlessly. If we were given $10,000 to spend on a shopping spree for 1 hour in the mall of our choice, would you not use every second efficiently? Why then, in a world where time is our most limited resource, do we spend it without care? The answer I believe lies in the hands of where time came from. Ephesians 5:16 "Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil." Time is a chain, that holds us down. When we sinned, we shortened our time from eternity to temporary. Death now stands at the finish line awaiting our souls. Time if given by God, must be used for God. If time is a random act of nature and coincidence, then it can be spent with no real consequence because it is meaningless. Time is one of the Christian's greatest possessions to utilize for God's Kingdom. And it's never too late to start spending it. God made the universe in seven days, rose to life in three, formed his church in 3 years and flooded the world in 40 days. The amount of time you have is not infinite but it is plenty. So today I look into the mirror and see 27 years past, but more importantly I see the next day ahead. And as long as tomorrow comes, there exists an opportunity to live for God. Time indeed is money, so use your money wisely this 2015.
