The Great Banquet

Luke 14:15-24 The awkward and uncomfortable nature of Christ's teaching prompts a man to proclaim a word of generic blessing to all those present. He is of course referencing the kingdom glory that awaits all Jews but Jesus takes this opportunity to correct this statement. Jesus teaches through a parable of a great feast that the originally invited guests who prioritize their own daily life tasks over attendance of the banquet, will in the end, forfeit their presence at the feast. The master commands his servant to find replacement guests such as social outcasts (crippled, blind, lame and poor) and gentiles (highways and hedges). Jesus is teaching that those who ignore the importance of this feast and invitation will inevitably fail to be there. But the master now opens his door for all to come and fill the seats.
