Lost Coin

Luke 15:8-10

Jesus extends his previous point from the parable of the lost sheep with this parable on the lost coin. His point being again, that there is great rejoicing in a sinner coming into repentance, or "being found" and that is where the focus of God's people should be. Our heart should be to go and find, like this woman, the lost "coins" of this world. This woman goes as far to light a lamp, sweep the house and seek everywhere. In the same way the Christian effort into missions must be radical and committed to the completion of the task. There is a sense here that this woman will not give up until she finds this coin. Perhaps the more enlightening point is Jesus' emphasis again on the great rejoicing and joy in heaven that is expressed when a sinner repents. This just shows us how much God despises sin and how much he finds joy in the deprivation and elimination of sin.
