John 1:19-34
Just a quick thought on this short excerpt from the Gospel of John. As I was reading these verses it dawned on me that John’s proclamation and declaration that this man before him, Jesus of Nazareth, was the very one whom the prophets spoke of and the very man who had come to take sin away from the world. That is quite the statement and quite an error if false. Putting aside the question of how John the Baptist knew this to be so, my attention was drawn to the fact that on the heels of this prophetic announcement Jesus would later invite men into a journey of following him. John’s stamp of approval here might have been enough for some to say ‘yes’ to Jesus. But what gave value and weight to John’s words was his reputation as a man of God. And so may we be men and women of God who are reputable as such so that our proclamation of Christ would be of use in inviting people into a life of following Jesus.
